Thanks to the Constantia Wine Route and the partnering wine farms in the area , Beau ConstantiaSilvermist and Groot Constantia , I recently experienced a majestic evening in one of oldest cellars in the Cape filled with good food, great wine and bubbly comapny. The event brought together media from different backgrounds such as photography, travel, tourism and food lifestyle in an attempt to educate and boost social awareness of the beatiful winelands that is just on our doorstep and what it has to offer. Enjoy my scoop on the adventures of the evening below 🙂

Good to Know

The evening hosted at the Groot Constantia historical Cellar amongst the  hosted a variety of entertaning activities kicking off with a wine cocktail inspired by rose, apple mint and lemon from Beau Constantia. This was followed by a tractor trail trip amongst the blissfull vineyards while the winemakers from each of the participating farms briefed on their winemaking processes and the significance of the varietals growing in the Constantia area, while we enjoyed a sabrage for the bubblies of the Groot Constantia (Brut Rose & Grand constance) .

What to Expect

Upon return to the Cellar , we enjoyed some gourmet butternet soup and Cape-malay styled canapes served by the while each of the wine makers took us on a further journey with tasings of each of their flagship and favourite wine varietals. From Groot Constantia we had the Grand Constance, Silvernmist offered the 2015 &2016 Savignon varietals and Beau Constantia offered the delectable ‘Lucca’ and ‘Cecily’ red wines. The were accompanied by a gorgeous three course meal served up by the notorius Jonkershuis Resturant with its rich Cape Malay influences. Its also worth noting that the “Entertainer App” is applicable at the restaurant so all the meals can be fully enjoyed at a discount.

After treats and dinner , we were invited to a special experience – an age old Groot Constantia dessert wine in the attic accompanied by candle light. The characteristics of this wine was that it was rich and had some scents of honey and it can mature for a number of years which made the taste and experience so much better.

The overall experience of the evening with the winelands and the accompanying venues can be described as :

Sophisticated l Beautiful l Heart Warming l Highly recommendable

Make sure that visiting the picturesque winelands especially during the spring an summer months is on your list and be preparedto be blown away by the wonderful offerings whether it be the food & wines available or the blissful setting and location just on our doorstep.
