The Sun Met '19

Annual Racing Festival

On 26 January 2019, at the Kenilworth Race Course, the Sun Met Celebrated with Mumm brought together horse racing and fashion under an opulent Precious Metals theme.

Good to know!

1. Sun International & Mumm

The Sun Met ’19 was organised by luxury brand Sun International, with G.H. Mumm as a headline sponsor. Other major brands included Heineken, American Swiss, Capitec, Ferrero Rocher, Capitec, Heart FM and Canal Walk, to name a few. Guests were spoiled for choice with delicacies, pop-up “presentations” and gifts from these brands throughout the day. Not to show off, but if you were present you may have bagged a watch from American Swiss, indulged on a chocolate ball or two from Ferrero Rocher, or won an impressive prize to the value of R200,000 with Sun International by entering their #PassportToSun competition. It was quite a day of successful collaborations amongst brands indeed!

2. Launch of Olympe Rosé

Usain Bolt, G.H. Mumm’s brand ambassador (or CEO//Chief Entertainment Officer, as they refer to him), in collaboration with G.H. Mumm, launched the brand’s new Mumm Olympe Rosé which has been aged in cognac barrels. Those present in the Paddock marquee at the time got to sample the creation on tap, and well let’s just say the  Mumm Olympe Rosé is right up there with the prestige of Moët & Chandon.

3. Music Line-up

The line-up featured some of South Africa’s top names in music including DJ Maphorisa (widely regarded for his eclectic fusion of Afropop, House and Gqom music); Lady Zamar, a popular singer/songwriter who has bagged recent awards such as Song of the Year at the 2017 DStv Viewer’s Choice Awards and Best Dance Album at the 2018 SAMAs; and the timeless Mafikizolo, South Africa’s multiple SAMA award-winning duo who has dominated the Kwaito genre since launching their first album in 1997. All general access ticket holder guests received complimentary access to the official Sun Met after-party to experience the line-up live. It was music at its best, trust us!
